>>8337871Listen Cena is charismatic especially compared to the modern worker and Batista has had success in Hollywood doing the Marvel shit, but man in the context of a wrestling show don't you put them in the same tier as Hogan or Dwayne. The drugs probably helped the older guys get over more, but they were far more convincing than either Cena or Batista. Those guys were so wooden, so self-conscious compared to Hogan who was such a huge mark for himself that he got his shit over. Again, Hogan also didn't have Vince scripting every word for him but also, if memory serves at all, I believe Cena often got a pass on that from Vince. Either way, he never had Hogan's ability in that way. The funny thing is, going back and rewatching, Hogan had tons of guys way better at promos all around him. Piper, Flair, Savage, Heenan, hell even guys like Jake that he never feuded with were all far, far more creative, quicker and compelling than Hogan. He had the look, the muscles that got him in Rocky 3 that made him so iconic, he didn't need to be better than those guys. Point I'm trying to make is that Cena and Batista do have box office returns to their name more than Hogan did but that's not a product of getting over on a wrestling TV show. They succeeded in very specific, heavily choreographed settings that Hogan never had. WWE in 2008 still didn't have the naturals that the 80s and 90s had. It tried way harder in the ring. It was worse in every way and Cena, Batista, throw in HHH and Orton too were nowhere near the charisma levels of a Hogan, Austin or Rock. Anon is still right.
