yeah their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show would be the loudest indoor pops.
outdoors, it would be The Beatles in 1966 at Shea Stadium. nobody, including the band, could even hear the music over the screaming fans. they had to stop touring because the fans wouldn't shut the fuck up and listen.

i don't know about biggest pop but the best pop ever was jericho's debut. it sounded so cathartic. the rise in popularity of the dirt sheets, the smart marks. it was like all of them releasing that they knew something ahead of time.
