In order to suspend my disbelief I need them to genuinely look like they can kick my ass
Thats my only criteria and yet the majority of modern "pro wrestlers" fail it (half are women and half of the men are under 6 foot and scrawny)

In my opinion it depends,but a whole roster should be really diverse not the faggy type of diversity but you need all types of wrestlers : big,small,fat,workrate wrestlers,charismatic wrestlers etc.

A lot of people think height is what is lacking today but I think the real issue is lack of broadness. You can be sub 6'0 and still look like something if you have a wide frame and big arms and you can be over 6'0 and look like shit if you are a stringbean.

Compare George Gulas and Jackie Fargo in this picture. It's kind of old timey but its the best one I have for two examples standing next to one another. Height wise Gulas moggs the shit out of Fargo but you can take one look at the guy and tell he is weak. If I had to pick one of those guys to fight I would 100% believe I could take George Gulas over Jackie Fargo. Goldberg was no skyscraper but he looked dangerous. RVD was like 6'0 but looked dense as fuck.

Obviously a guy like Sid Vicious or Kane who is both tall and jacked is the ideal but those guys stand out as examples because it's rare to see both. These days there are too many people like Adam Cole who are literally smaller than your average person walking around on the street. Even some out of shape fat dude could probably fuck Cole up just by grabbing him and falling down.
