The mid level indies were a way for wrestlers to develop experience inbetween local bingo halls and the big name companies, without something like that it's done since everyone is going to be exposed on TV.

The death of the territories also means that when someone loses a feud, well they stick around and you have to see them stink up the joint. You are going to see the same people for years and it is not going to be the people you want to see

Meanwhile the indies are still doing about as well as they ever have. Of course, major promotions usually do try to snatch up the best indy talent but that's always been the case.

Yeah there's been a huge ladder-kicking over the past decade. You can't work your way up from bingo halls to territories to Impact/RoH to WWE (and now AEW). Basically your only chance to survive as a wrestler now is if Meltzer and the IWC randomly bestow you with fame or if someone at WWE has a crush on you. I wouldn't be surprise if we saw a major die-off in wrestling over the next ten years as every big name retires with no replacement in sight. That's pretty much already happened with all the Attitude/Ruthless era stars, but at least a lot of current guys got to work with those. New guys are going to have jack to work with even if they do manage to get into the big leagues.

Wrestling is also not cool so nobody is going to grow up wanting to be a pro wrestler and WWE/NJPW are the only organizations big enough to recruit failed pro athletes anymore instead of them being broken in when they see how much money you could make wrestling in the territory days

they need to make it real again, or at least make people think it's real again. Wrestling has been on the decline ever since they were forced to admit that it's fake. What they need to do is use a mixture of reality and fiction, and at least some of the matches need to be real contests.

Feds are hard to kill, anon. Tony might be humbled, but even impact somehow still has a pulse. That family has enough money to chuck 10-20 million into a hobby annually to keep it alive.
