No one defends Miz’s ring work. He was absolutely awesome on the mic and as a character when he won the title. He was pissing off smarks by bullying Daniel Bryan for a few months. Despite what Punk may have thought Miz was the best heel in the business at that time.

I personally liked it. WWE was stale in those days. It was a welcomed change of pace for me. I don’t think he was really popular with everyone though. Didn’t create any new fans or anything like that. A step above reigns like Jinder’s or Kofi’s easily.
