Easily one of the best matches ever that street fight against Foley, credit where credit is due this was one of the few chances Trips actually decided to put in some effort and showed that he could hang at the top, plus Foley actually made him look like a believable champ and not just a politicking asshole helping with a damn great storyline and in-ring work.
Then I dunno what happened, but if I had to guess once he legally married Steph and got more intimate with the rest of the McMahons his politicking power grew and by 2003 there was no one able to stop his bullshit, cue years and years of narcissism on-screen.
But, again that match at royal rumble 00 against Cactus Jack is damn, damn good.
