Most crematoria will give you whatever ashes they scoop out of the oven when cremation is over. The ashes are mix of various cremated bodies, but hopefully they include some from your deceased relative.

I prefer cremation over being buried in an $8k box. But I’ve wondered: what’s the long-term plan for a persons ashes? You can’t possibly be expected to pass them down through the generations. “Hey these are your great grandmothers remains. You never met her, but this fucking urn is your responsibility now”. Do most people just toss them under a tree or whatever eventually? Why not just do that from the start? I think I just want to be tossed in a dumpster. What do I care, I’ll be dead.

My granddad’s ashes are interred at his church, and I think his kids may have gotten a bit of them to put in charms or whatever. If you’re going to be kept in someone’s house don’t keep them in some fucking paul bearer urn, put it in something artistic or useful, or yeah, do some sort of ash release somewhere symbolic. Probably should get that taken care of in your will
