>>8660408I remember when Cody and Tony Khan and the Young Bucks stood there at that open-air shithole and said AEW was planned to present a sports-based professional wrestling show.
Not a single one of their shows resembled sports-based pro wrestling.
The only element thereof which can be found is their scoresheet of wins and losses which they can default to if there's absolutely no story-based reason for a match... but only because JR suggested it.
My guess is that Tony may have wanted to do this and Cody may have wanted to do this, but Cody and Jericho were at the time the only two guys who could do that. MJF joined later but that's still only 3.
All the other guys at the time (2019) were indie self-mark fantasy wrestlers who did hadoukens and went super saiyan.
And worse, despite all the veterans and legends Tony Khan brought in to teach the young talent how to pro-wrestle, they're still sucking ass at it because they're not working often enough to master the trade and because so many of these younger guys think that since they spent 10 years scraping the indies they're already experts at the game and know what they're doing (which they don't).
