I have started watching Nitro from the beginning, about 5 episodes in.
Watching 1 episode or PPV a night.
Currently on Nitro:OCT. 23, 1995, which is the last show before Halloween Havoc 95

I tried to get some friends to watch through WCW with me and they gave up after the first episode. I think I'm just gonna watch it on my own. What date did you start from OP? Also are you going to watch Thunder?

I'm getting close to when nitro starts too. curious how I should watch the monday night wars. should I watch it week by week like it released or like in one month chunks of each side?

If you are going to watch both RAW and Nitro it's best to watch them together on the night they appeared. Have both videos playing and "change the channel" back and forth depending on what is being shown. That's the way most people watched it when it was on. I was constantly flipping back between the shows if a boring match or segment was on.
