its really sad watching wrestling from the 80s and 90s and seeing how dead the crowds now are compared to how electric crowds used to be

What explains the phenomenon? In AEW they have overly smarky "secondary actor" type crowds that are obnoxious and transparently interested in putting the product over, but in WWE it has the opposite problem where everyone is so disinterested all the time. Both suck.

AEW has at least a exceptions, like when the Acclaimed were about to win the tag belts at that PPV. I can't think of anything louder. Even the MJF/Punk feud was like nothing compared to it. You can tell crowds, even the smarkiest of smarka, want to get loud. There just hasn't been anything good enough. WWE might have something similar, but you wouldn'tbe able to tell with the way they turn down the crowd volume. Scripted promos are never going to get classic crowd noise anyway.

Just happened 8 days ago. It is a house show but the audience is losing their minds marking out for the finnerman. Women are screaming his name constantly. Anytime Kojima goes on the offensive the men are chanting for Nakajima to fight on. Every time Finner took a bump people in the audience would jump out of their seats like they were going to run in and save him.

I miss the people making organic sounds and not having to react using the same FUCKING CHANTS every match. You'd just hear some kid scream, "Get him Bret!" or women hollering as HBK got offense in.
