He did the reality show and game show just so he could try and push himself to that level, which obviously didn't work out. I don't even think he is that over in WWE, I think its mainly because he of the way he came back that hes getting some reactions.
What pisses me off though, is that Cody could had easily been in the top 10 of best heels of all time if he had just leaned into it during his last year in AEW. Everything was naturally there for him to become a heel and he wasted it.
Obviously he is where he had always wanted to be in his life, and they will kepe him around the main event scene, but I can see within 2 years people won't care too much to hear that same promo over and over again because hes never going to really change his gimmick now.
