I never really cared for Dave, but seeing him spend his whole-ass life building himself into a big mountain of meat and then start melting away in his 50s and being like "Oh man, why can't I get any roles in romantic comedies" is kinda sad. He never had the option to age gracefully.

Nah he's not really begging. There has been a LONG running campaign to get Dave as Marcus (and it's what most fans want). They actually already put him in Gears 5 as a skin/voice swap for the campaign. You can use him in the MP too of course.

Gears of War literally put out DLC that would turn Fenix into Batista because of how similar they are. If Netflix doesn't cast Batista as Fenix, it's because they're being cheap on the budget, which will probably be the case because any GOW show/movie is going to be 90% CGI.
