>>8860927The idea that "no marks were stars until the current generation" isn't true. MOST stars weren't marks back in the 80s and early 90s but from the mid 90s on you saw a number of marks or family business guys.
HBK was a mark and Vince gave him the world.
HHH was a mark, he married Vince's daughter and was pushed hard even when he was with Chyna.
Foley was a mark and given plenty of status.
Cena was a mark, likewise.
Brock, Batista, weren't.
Randy wasn't a mark but was a case of its the family business.
Rock wasn't a mark, he was family business and last resort career.
Bret wasn't a mark but was family business.
Austin wasn't a mark.
Flair was a mark for Buddy Rogers.
Savage wasn't a mark.
Sting wasn't a mark.
Warrior wasn't a mark.
Hogan wasn't a mark.
Luger wasn't a mark.
Nash wasn't a mark.
Hall wasn't a mark.
Goldberg wasn't a mark.
But even old school midcarders like Regal or guys a tier below the megastars like Jericho were marks.
The problem isn't when some stars are marks. The problem is when ALL of your roster are marks.
