I would assume the reason it's not used anymore is because the duck down kick counter is an easy/lazy way to transition control of the match. And because modern wrestling matches have very little build throughout, maybe you get some head locks countered into head scissors to start a match, but the more low impact moves are usually just there to give a guy the excuse to roll out of the ring and get dived on. But the majority of matches now is just guys exchanging knockout blows.
