it meant it was a super-hot match with incredible workrate. It may or not be "historically" significant and most historically significant matches have been less than 5 stars. Austin vs Michaels is historically significant and also dogshit as a match.

5 stars don't mean anything in AEW because they've had matches above that. So this gets lumped with the rest of them. Cody and Sammy had a legit 5 star genre defining classic of a ladder match but no one really talks about it because it doesn't stand out without 5.5 meme stars or greater.
