HD was a big deal at the time, like 3D TVs (or 4k) but not just a dumb gimmick. the shift to HD was as much about going from the 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio as much as anything else. as i recall this episode ended with triple h destroying the set with a sledgehammer, so maybe it was just a way to give the old set a send off
