Why did wrestling make cage matches like this? Wouldn't the HITC rules make more sense? That it has to finish inside the cage pinfall or submission?

only hardcore smarks care about this. when youre a casual or a kid first getting into wrestling, the guys trying to escape the cage is the most exciting part. I got into wrestling because of a cage match. The wrestlers fighting to escape the cage was the coolest shit i ever saw. without the escaping stipulation, cage matches would be boring as fuck

It was a decent finish actually. I just wish James Storm and Roode got to flesh out their rivalry a bit more and both got decent title reigns out of that period. Storm needed at least one more longer title reign but at least Roode got to have one. I actually saw a video that said allegedly Storm was at one point going to be the leader of aces & 8's but then they went with Bully Ray. Imagine how wildly different TNA's direction would be had they did that.

It would also make those high risk top of the cage spots make a lot more sense. A wrestler is having a hard time keeping the other guy down so he gets desperate and jumps off the cage for a dive hoping to finally put him down. The way it is though might as well just escape the cage all the time. One would think a cage match should perhaps even be the last culmination of a particular intense feud. Again similar to what they told us HITC is supposed to be. Even though obviously they didn't follow their own hype on that kek.

Completely disagree with this. They are always interesting because its a rare match type. Of course not all of them in history have been great matches but the very fact its a cage match itself makes me want to watch it. They should be bloody with a lot of cage throwing.

The escape stipulation really doesn't need to be there. I think Vince only does it in order to protect certain guys from a direct loss. Usually for a heel to get a sneaky win over a face without directly beating the face. Other companies just followed that have escape stipulation. The idea of it ending in the cage sounds better to me.

all wrestling fans start out as kids or casual fans before they become hardcore wrestling hipsters who debate whether or not guys escaping the cage makes sense or not. the point is most people dont think about that stuff, they dont care, the escaping stipulation just makes the match more fun and entertaining for them. it's only when youve been watching for 10 years and going down the smark rabbit hole do you start thinking about this stuff
