Listen, zoomer, you probably weren't watching then, but Christian got organically over all the way back in 2005. He was outpopping Cena in their feud ffs, which is why Vince suddenly inserted Jericho into the feud, to protect his poster boy.
Yes, Christian then went to TNA because WWE refused to respond to the fans and, instead of pushing him according to the great crowd reactions he was getting, they drafted him to Smackdown and punished and buried him for getting too over (as they are known to do).
But even after coming back, Christian was absolutely over as babyface after his great run in WWECW. Go rewatch Money in the Back 2009. The crowd went wild when it looked like Christian was going to win it (and then they booed the hell out of Punk when he stole the victory from him).
Christian deserved far more than what he got. Even someone like Kofi got a 6 month world title reign. Christian? A 2 day and then a 30 day reign, losing to a bland and stale face Orton both times. It was a fucking travesty, which is why tons of fans protested and Orton was showered with hate messages at the time (though it wasn't his fault, he defended Christian and actually didn't wanna do it, but Vince gonna be Vince and dump on Christian).
