>>8959836Cody is a huge fan of smarky break the 4th wall kind of angles (like last weeks Raw when he said everyone is making his personal quest to get the title for his dad 'personally' it was always going to be that way.) So at that time in AEW when they were still new on the scene, smarks assumed Cody only came there to get the world title. For his daddy. At the time he was still a shoot EVP, this was before the old cucks and he resigned those positions. So to try and blur the lines he set that stipulation which on surface level means he is sure to win the match, it's the Rhodes legacy, pun not intended. But he loses, I assume because he wanted to elevate midcard guys (like him, or past Cody specifically) rather than be a top guy burying anyone else. This is also why he had a throne and sledge obsession (but he and HHH seem to be fine, he just REALLY loves smark bait.) In general I don't think it was an awful idea, Brodie dying is what fucked it from a cohesion standpoint. I assume he would have gone on to put over a lot more talent that didn't get the rub before going to AEW, he still did to some extent.
