I don't think Tony can recover. He's just not a creative guy. His solution to his booking was to swap the rows and columns--that's the sort of solution a mediocre office drone would come up with. Vince was a businessman first, but in his heyday he had a real creative spark, and that's part of why it all worked.

Vince has a real imposing personality that really comes through in his creative decisions, he's a genuine eccentric who isn't into paying homages or aping off others in wrestling, for better and for worse. Tony, on the other hand, is a guy who has openly admitted to use cagematch ratings as a metric for success. There's just no comparison. Just let somebody else book the show for you.
