One of the worst things about this game: even N64 games had different pin animations depending on the angle of your character. In this, the wrestler skips around, because there's only 1 pin animation in the whole damn game.

If you're going to release your game as a commercial console game and expect it to do well, the visual presentation needs to be up to modern standards. It doesn't have to be breathtaking or photorealistic but you have no chance selling the game at full price on a PS5 with graphics that are 2 generations out of date. It looks like a low budget indie title so there's no way you're going to see this on disc for $50 at Walmart for more than a month. It has $25 on Steam and PSN written all over it.

yeah and that game released over 20 years ago lmao. inexcusable for a full price console wrestling game in 2023. you can make an arcade-style bare-bones game if you want to but you can't release it at the same price and on the same platforms as a full-featured modern game. i'd sooner play MDickie's Wrestling Empire for $20.

It will never fail to be funny that AEW found a way to lose money on a licensing deal.

It doesn't play that way though. Its 20 years old, most of the nostalgia for it come from people who actually played it. I understand why current day video game autists don't care for it, and I also understand why current day video game autists are shitting on the AEW game non stop before it even comes out. They have standards for what they think a modern day video game should be, and the problem for AEW is that they are trying to release a game that only a certain number of people will "get". If (a big if) the gameplay is close enough to no mercy to make it enjoyable, fans of the original game will overlook the shortcomings elsewhere in the presentation. But that group of people isn't big enough to make the game financially successful, it needs the mass of modern day gamers to buy in to, and as we've seen so far, they won't if the game doesn't meet their expectations of what a modern game is, and in all likely hood the game is not going to meet those expectations. AEW is in a no lose situation here.

Actually the game play is perfect, but once you've mastered it there's not enough variable's to keep the game play interesting. Once you mast the grapple timing you're gonna hit your move every time unless you're retarded and keep trying to do your strong moves at the start of the match.
So once you've mastered it, what's wrong with cracking open a cold one, putting your arm around your beautiful wife and enjoying a match that will never happen?

It's amazing how little thought went into working on the features that actually sell sports games, period.

They probably should've just eschewed making a realistic game entirely, and just gone for something stylized and cartoony. Doing it realistically with the limited animations, downgraded character models, small crowds, a cut roster, and no CAW feature just screams "cheap knockoff". Even if the game plays better than it looks, everyone'll assume this is just Enchanted Portals to WWE's Cuphead.
