Even back in the Indies Sami was character work before everything, to the point it pissed Cornette off and made him loathe him as much as the Bucks. He committed to a gimmick where he wasn't allowed to say a word for YEARS and not only got over but built such a memorable feud with Steen that it landed them both permanent jobs in WWE. Even in NXT, where he wasn't really given much mic time, he somehow navigated himself into a great feud with Pac. He made bullshit gimmicks like YEP and the weird manager thing with Shinsuke work. He's been at it for years

I really think people shouldn't try to pretend to be something they're not (but also be the best versions of themselves). Bayley is a natural face and is floundering/failing as a heel. People should just try to make the most of what they've got and find their fit in the scheme of things.
