Oh yeah, I 100% agree. Was very fucked up of Heenan who is otherwise one of the GOATs, but it's something I think that was only realized in retrospect. I watched that PPV as it was happening, and that call is something I didn't really think about when it happened. It didn't dawn on me until years after the fact when I finally got fast enough internet to pirate it that it was a shit call of Heenan was out of line.

I love KK but his commentary during the Okada/Kaito brawl was fucking horrible. Saying "this is Akira Maeda" is barely better than juat saying that they're shooting now. It felt like a less blatant version of Russo's worked shoots (Kaito went off the script!) rather than just an explanation of how the match got out of control.

This whole debate gets stupidier every time I read it because Heenan literally didn't know. None of them did, WCW left their commentators in the dark basically all the time and if you read his book or his old blog it's one of the things he hated most about working there. Heenan was doing his usual shtick because he had as much insight to what was going down as anyone else.
