It’s pretty surreal to think it used to be MORE popular a decade ago but didn’t have the same sort of reach that they do now.

Yeah, though in fairness to Paul, he was the one who allowed Sami and Roman to interact. The point is, Paul is riding high at the moment because of a honeymoon period and inheriting Vince's creation. When that all dries up... well, it's a long way down.

I remember reading an article back in the day where Vince said if he was to ever be a wrestler he'd be HHH, like Vince saw himself as that guy. Besides being his son in law that's the only other reason I can see why he pushed Paul so hard even when it killed the attitude era and every era afterwards.

TV viewership has dropped across the board so companies are desperate to pay for anything that brings in a bigger audience. Wrestling viewership has also dropped but a bit slower that the rest of TV so can charge higher rates despite falling ratings. Same with the live sports financing bubble, their viewership isn't growing hugely but the amount they charge is because their ratings aren't in massive decline.

They charge more money than before and for some reason people buy their product. I still can't understand why FOX is still paying them so much money for such low ratings. Maybe it fills Friday Night nicely but I believe they could buy better sports with all that money. Also them scamming the Saudis was a big home run. Aside of that, they're of course saving money in lots of areas like production costs, smaller salaries for some of the staff, etc...
