>>9041205>NBA is already on cableAnd it is trying to expand its audience and is trying to find a partner that will do so. Currently the NBA is a far off #2 in US sports and is still trying to find its footing overseas. They have had their TV nights when they cross over briefly during the year infiltrated by the NFL, specifically their Christmas season games. They want to gain ground and have talked about this. If you followed the NBA or TV you'd know that is why people see NBC, Amazon, and ESPN as for sure being involved. The only reason that TNT has not been told they are out of the bidding is Adam Silver has a soft spot for them due to his history and their history with the league.
>Live sports ad rates are the lifeblood of cable tvNo live sports provide stable ad rates for a huge chuck of time that does not require TV development cost and the russian roulette luck of having a "hit" show.
>And?And you still have no sense of how large conglomerate TV networks split their brand viewerships, and actively want that to be the case. USA will not be "rebranded" as the home of NBA basketball anymore than WB would rebrand Food Network to be the home of AEW. Its not even something worth arguing for or against because its so obviously out of the scope of things. If NBC wins a bid for NBA games they will use it to drive subscriptions to Peacock the same Amazon has used TNF, and the way Paramount+ used their Sunday NFL games. Cable is dead. Streaming is the thing. It has already changed the way ad spots are negotiated because, once a fucking again, there is no need for third party Neilsen ratings when your own platform gives you all the meta data on your viewership you need. Now stfu.
