It's revisionist history that the WWF's version of the nWo flopped right out the gate. They got a good reception at No Way Out. And then a great reception the next night in Chicago where they gave a truly epic beatdown on The Rock and the crowd cheered for THEM not the Rock. Their nWo t-shirt was on top of the march sales almost immediately. McMahon and company IMMEDIATELY stepped in and did absolutely fuck all with the angle from here on out basically reducing the three to the blandest just run of the mill heel stable as possible....and yet they still got cheered and in many cases a LOT of cheers. And then come WrestleMania and they destroy the whole fucking angle by turning Hogan face. From then on. out the group was treated even worse. And yeah after a while were no longer over and had zero buzz. Well gee its almost like the booking was meant to sabotage yet another "WCW creation" because of McMahon's butthurt and ego.
Had they even been allowed to act somewhat like they did in WCW and not be treated like jobbers within weeks and kept Hogan heel (oh no a heel is getting cheered....yeah....that often happened in WCW....didn't mean they scrapped the fucking angle) I guarantee you WWF maybe doesn't reach a new boom period but guaranteed doesn't absolutely PLUMMET like they did in 2002.
