>>9049426On the surface, Don's verbal exchange with Ginsberg seems like a no-contest. Don wins each round, characterised by the ding on each floor of the lift. And then he leaves dazed and defeated with one of the most quotable lines on the show " I don't think about you at all".
However, I find it interesting how these exchanges are just a parallel to Don's whole existence. Don only wants people to see a neatly packaged version of him that's unflappable and unbeatable. He is the personification of "It's toasted". He's created a version of himself that makes people ignore his toxic side and is instead seduced by his charm and good looks.
We know Don is thinking about the likes of Ginsberg staring into his shadow, dude sabotaged his work, because he felt his own work was inferior to Ginsberg's clearly better and funnier ad.
So whilst "I don't think about you at all" seems like a cool line to say in the moment, in the grand scheme of things, Don is just lying to himself.
