Instead, they went right into Hogan vs Savage (which, to be fair, did pop a rating when Hogan beat him for the title) and didn't set up any significant challengers for Sting.
The war was WCW's to lose and it was like they just threw in the towel (and got lucky with Goldberg catching on for a few months). By 1999, they were toast.
And that's without any of the Jamie Kellner/corporate bullshit. Bischoff and Hogan took that company into a nosedive.
