>>9095815Cornette's heel manager character was a spoiled 20-something year old rich kid who's wealthy mother was basically funding his various hobbies.
For the first year or two of him as a manager, Cornette dressed in the clothing you normally associate with rich boat owners/yachtsmen. But this was when Cornette was a literal comedy manager type buffoon. When he hooked up with the Midnight Express and was starting to be booked as a more serious and competent heel manager (instead of a spoiled brat who didn't know what the fuck he was doing), Cornette started dressing more professional-like and started carrying a "loaded tennis racket" to defend himself against the good guys/use as a foreign object to help his team win. He opted for the tennis racket as a weapon, because tennis at the time was still considered a "rich man's sport" (owing to his character's background as an overgrown spoiled rich kid) at the time but also, IIRC, because it was considered way safer to use since by keeping the racket in it's protective sleeve, they could use a regular tennis racket and not have to modify one to add a weight in the netting, meaning when he used it as a weapon, his victim didn't have to worry about being hurt by it.
