it's like people who call themselves a "terf", even though it's a completely nonsense term designed to look bad (why, for example, is it "radical feminism" to say trans women aren't women?). trying to "own" a word/term is hit and miss, mostly miss. consider the n-word for example, even black people think its a suitable word to use.
