he works a safe style, he worked in an era where telling stories in the ring was as important as telling stories outside of matches, and he's a good enough worker that he can make other people look good without either overshadowing them or relying on them to carry him

dude's never been a 10/10 wrestler, but being a 7/10 who can work in his 50s has gotta count for something

Most experience and by far the smartest worker out of everyone active that they've got. He works a simple, timeless style that focuses on story and engagement w/o relying too much on doing too much and knows how to pull the crowd in as heel or even face (watch his match with at TNA Genesis 2009 with Kurt Angle he was on fire)
Only one close to him in this regard is Danielson, self-indulgent geeks like Moxley and The Elite can't compare.

as much as it pains me to say this - and it really does - Daddy Ass has to be in this conversation, too

again, he's not a great worker, but dude can make anyone look good and he's older than dirt by active wrestling standards

sheeeeit, I'm still amazed he looks as good as he does in the ring, considering how awful the rest of DX looks these days

because AEW is a mix of crippled veterans and charisma vacuum hotdoggers. That's not console war shit just look at the roster, the format of the show and the obscenely random matchups.
