Neither of those companies have that big of an influence on modern north american pro wrestling. The real culprit was PWG who wanted spawned legions of indy guys trying to do Dragon Gate style lucharesu.

And it's neither. Dragon Gate was a huge influence on late 00s and 10s so-cal dance style that the Bucks and so many others use today.
Lucha at least some risk is involved in coke fueled flippy shit like in WCW's cruiserweights. You see none of that in American indie style now because everyone is so dedicated to executing a choreographed tumbling routine.
The rest of puro ex. strong style was a bigger influence in the early-mid 10s when you had early Danielson, the American Wolves, for example. You honestly don't see as much of it now unless you look at Kingston's bad version.

I'm talking about modern wrestling as a whole here. I don't know a ton about the history of Japanese wrestling but whoever started the obligatory chop/forearm exchange in EVERY modern jap match male or female needs blame put upon them.
