He rarely locked his arms in so it just looks like the opponent struggles due to his leg being bent in the wrong direction. When it should be that plus Cena's massive arms locking the guy's head. What I dislike the most about Cena isn't his mediocre "wrestling" or the burials he did 80% of the time but the use of his legitimate charity work to get him over as a face.
The mixing of real life charity work and kayfabe never sat right with me. It seemed exploitative getting over on the backs of cancer kids or whatever and made me hate Cena and the WWE more.

Like seriously. Everyone complains about finisher and move spam but Cena is hands down the worst guy at this and it doesn’t even come close.

This. I admit I got very tired of Cena around 2009 and by 2013 I couldn't stand the guy but he was better than I gave him credit for. With a quality opponent he could have some great matches, even though they were too far between and his personality was impossibly lame. Still, having grown up in the early 90s, Roman's run has been the worst era of wrestling ever. At least Diesel was done within a year, HHH's run had better matches, I'd be happy if Roman retired after he drops the belts

Remember the "You can't wrestle!" chants? This was supposed to silence that. Turns out, all you need is to wrestle (get carried by) other more talented guys and the easily impressed marks just gobble it up.
In hindsight, the open challenge didn't do much for the title or for anyone except Cena. But it accomplished what it was supposed to: make Cena look at least competent.

He’s a good wrestler with many classic moments and definitely qualifies as a legend no matter how you look at it.

That said, his run from like 2008-2013 was fucking terrible. years straight of monster of the month getting built up, cena overcomes the odds, monster is jobbed into the midcard. That or endless feuding with Randy Orton with whom he never had a single kino match or moment.

He had a few standout moments for sure especially his feud with Edge and HBK but mostly Cena in his “prime” on the top was exhausting to watch unless you were literally 12. Even 13 year olds were Orton or Edge or Punk marks over that faggot, he exclusively appealed to children who don’t know better. He is definitionally a groomer

I think the timeline shift happened after RVD got suspended while WWE and ECW champion.
I think RVD was meant to hold the belts much longer and help carry the ECW brand but instead he caught the DUI and Edge was given a transitional 2 month reign before Cena got it back and became super Cena for over a year and probably would’ve held it longer if not for his injury.

RVD as champ means no prolonged Super Cena run. RVD was supposed to be the change everyone waited for. instead, it went right back to CENA WINS LOL status quo booking because it was the safe option.

Christian, who was out selling Cena in merch sales should have gotten a run during that time but was sent to Smackdown to cool off and not take from Cena’s momentum.
Cena also could’ve lost to Angle in that submission match or put the master lock over in it. instead we got Cena’s first CENAWINLOL.

He should not have beaten Edge again in a TLC match and Umaga absolutely could’ve had a monster run with the belt. SuperCena had far more to do with shit booking than stars around him being at fault.

Disagree. Gabriel and Darren Young both had serious potential to be main eventers. Ryback and Bray fucking suck, but they both went on to become over main eventers all the same. Otunga sucked even more than Ryback and Bray, but he had a killer look and a great gimmick, and would still be in WWE today had he not made himself enemies with his much more famous wife.

Nexus had serious potential before Summerslam 2010, and this was after they lost their most talented member in their first week. Cena killed a golden goose.

I thought I hated Cena, but in truth, I just hated WWE's booking of babyfaces, and it was no different with Hulk Hogan or any prior babyface.

Babyfaces that win all the time and the only time they're beaten is because the heel cheats or some bullshit distraction is just lame as shit when you reach teenagehood. It's genuinely too brainless and uninteresting. It's not compelling.

I don't mind companies having The Guy, but my favorite wrestling companies are the ones that have him shock lose cleanly every once in a while to really shake things up.

i never liked cena and i hate his big match style. all his "great matches" that people list are the same old trading finishers, endless near falls shit in an era where everything is carefully choreographed by road agents. he is not a good wrestler, everything he did looked uncoordinated and sloppy, compare to randy orton who is sometimes boring but at least everything he does looks crisp and smooth. only cena match i really liked was brock squashing him.

Yeah, people complain about his booking and five moves of doom while overlooking how sloppy and shitty he was in general, especially during his early world title runs. I do think he got way better later on but Roman always blew him away in the ring despite getting even more hate.

WTF? Justin Gabriel was like Evan Bourne. Both got big pops thanks to their moves but neither could've cut a promo or carry a program to save their lives. I think it was a great way to introduce certain guys to the regular crowd who otherwise wouldn't get a chance to show off their arsenal in 30 minutes matches. A lot, if not all those guys were mainly known for their in ring talent, so it's not that far fetched to give them a spot that focuses on that aspect of their work. It was kind of a replacement for vignettes. And it gave Cena something fun to do without having to interfere in the main event's fresh blooded affairs. It had a formula, a redundant one at times, but it certainly did serve a purpose. I do wish that KO's clean win over Cena had been for the actual title, but looking at where he is now i'd say he turned out alright.
