Then have him lose and become an absolute wreck of a man, eventually becoming so unconfident in his abilities that he starts cheating and turns heel. Eventually he's in a feud with a face that feels bad for him and his obsession with winning that he just forfeits the match. This is the start of his redemption arc where he beats the guy who he lost to at wrestlemania and wins a world championship. He can hold the title for a few months (booked very strongly) before putting over some other smark darling, and then he can do generic midcard face stuff for several months.
