Joey cheated on Candace a lot and Johnny Gargano (who was a hanger on of the Elite ala Adam Page) basically was secretly in love with Candace.
Candace found out that Joey was cheating on her with other women and never intended on marrying her/was just stringing her along, So she dumped him and began a rebound relationship with Johnny Gargano, with the two fleeing California for the East Coast and signing with the WWE via NXT.
Joey and the Elite never forgave Candace for leaving Joey and Johnny for "stealing" Joey friend's girlfriend. However, they've had to put on a friendly face in public at least since Gargano quickly became one of Hunter's favorites and if they started their usual smear campaign tactics like they did against Punk and FTR against the Garganos, then Hunter would never let them into the WWE.
As for Dexter, he's collateral damage in Kenny's IRL feud with Nick Aldis. Aldis basically refused to hand Kenny the NWA belt as part of the belt collector storyline and in retaliation, Kenny had Dexter blackballed from AEW.
