He didn't even assume the McMahon surname until well into adulthood (he was still Vincent Lupton when he married Linda).
Vince Sr. also disapproved of the direction in which young Vince took the promotion. Vince himself has admitted that his father never would have sold to him if he'd known he would break with the NWA and go national. As it was, he only sold because he was dying of cancer.
