Why was Mike Awesome asked not to return for the ECW reboot after his performance the previous year? I think he was more in shape in 2005 than for most of his career but they didn't bring him back

He blew both his knees out in the match at ONS 05 . It was on the dive to the outside at the end.

He was on the DL for like a year after that so wwe's whole OG ECW revival came and went while he was hurt.

Gladiator Mike Awesome in Japan was based. Mike Awesome in oldschool ECW was based. Mike Awesome in WCW/WWE was terrible and only good thing he did during that time was power bomb one of ICP ontop of a bus. He was really a shell of himself by 2000.

It would be complete bullshit for the boys to hold it against him, he wasn't being paid, he had no obligation to work for free. Mike Awesome leaving with the belt didn't kill ECW, I don't know why people don't give more shit for the Dudleyz and Raven abandoning it which killed their TV deal.

Because he worked too stiff and was too hardcore for what their shitty vision for WWECW was. Its also why New Jack was absolutely a no go. Only reason they got Sabu to come in was because well, he was a bigger name and he's also tied to his Uncle Iron Sheik. Plus he could have teamed with RVD. Awesome would have wanted to make it on the better shows not stay on the third rate shitshow that was sci-fi ECW. And FYI not even Sabu and RVD ended up working out so that should tell you all you need to know about that terrible reboot.
