>>9204145At the peak of their popularity, FTR were sidelined in the AEW tag-team title picture to such a degree that fans started chanting "FTR" when The Young Bucks referred to themselves as "the best tag team in AEW". This resulted in FTR collecting belts around the world while the AEW tag-team title was stuck in a program with Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland.
After Kenny came back and the trios titles were in the picture again, the tag division was cannibalized since for some reason, groups that have more than two members can't challenge for the tag-team titles. The one good thing to come out of the creation of the trios titles was that The Young Bucks stopped putting their hands into what would happen with the tag-team titles, which meant that the title could go to a proper ratings draw (The Acclaimed).
When they try, they can put out some of the best matches on the card. Their "rehabilitation" of the trios titles with a 7-match series was consistently good and it helped to wash the controversy surrounding CM Punk's departure from the titles themselves. But their position of power within the company makes for some baffling decisions, like having random matches with younger talent without any build-up or more egregiously, carving a slot of time in a program for themselves when there are much better things that can be put on there in terms of audience attraction.
You'll see people saying "Their match with the spooky boys is the beginning of the storyline! They'll continue this thing for at least the next pay-per-view!" to which I say, what kind of influence do you have over the company where you can insert your barely-developed storyline into one of the four pay-per-views and expect people to be excited about it? Fucking Christian vs. Jungle Boy gets more hype from fans because it's an ongoing storyline that has both sides involved in the feud. When was the last time Kenny spoke on a live mic? Does he not want people to care about him? It's just sad to see.
