>>9229485Yup, maintaining that socket connection pool is costly but the real reason it blows up the site is because it airs like 20 messages per second to 2.5k people (at their highest). It's the 2.5k number that's the problem. Even at the highest, there are no more than 50 people who are actively participating in the chat and maybe 150-200 more who are spectating. Rest don't give a shit, yet they are still connected to the chat. Solution?
1. Don't automatically connect to chat, provide a button for it.
2. Disconnect chat after say a user's been in fullscreen for more than 2 minutes.
Just implementing those two things would bring the costs down by 3/4ths and it's less than an hour worths of work. but gallios is too busy spamming his shitty twitch stream and reddit garbage on the site instead.
