This is survivorship bias. It's easy to tell someone else to quit their comfortable high paying job with good publicity because a couple guys left and came back stronger. It's also easy to forget people like Sandow who plummeted into irrelevancy after leaving.

Cody and Ziggler were big internet darlings around the early and mid 10s. Ziggler was a bigger deal than Cody ever was in WWE and NJPW wanted him. Its very possible Ziggler could have left and thrived just like the Codester.
