I never saw him in WCW because I had stopped watching it by 2000. He impressed me with his athleticism when he joined WWF in the tag team with Palumbo, but he didn't really have a gimmick so I dismissed him. When he had his singles run as the stereotypical 00s edgy guy, I thought he had something but it fizzled out quickly.

His career seemed like one of wasted potential.

He was getting a fairly strong push at the end of WCW. Mostly all tag team but they were having him and Jindrak or Palumbo go over DDP & Nash and defend the tag titles. Even in the tag spots they were very clearly making it a point to show that O'Haire could stand up to the bigger guys on his own.
They were definitely thinking of giving him a strong singles push in 1 or 2 years.
He definitely needed more training though. Couldn't really talk, and it was clear he was told to just hit all his popular spots each match like they were afraid of him fucking anything else up.

He was basically an all-around better version of Batista. Same niche, but taller, more athletic, more aggressive etc. Too bad he fucked himself by being an abrasive asshole and intentionally picking fights in bars and shit. Just way too unreliable to invest in for a mainstream company.

Jim and Bruce both say they couldn't make anything out of him and nothing they tried stuck without counting his drinking and assholery.
But the ovw stuff is dumb because Jim even tells a story about Bruce coming up to him and saying they should just let go of Batista weeks into ovw because he had no personality, and Jim goes "he's like 28 years old, we'll give him one" so I never really understood why they were always so quick to give up on him.
