It's sad to see the stars of your childhood, who at one point looked like herculean gladiators, disintegrate through the perils of aging.
Time really is a formidable and insatiable beast, taking everything we hold dear, reminding of us of our own mortality. We live in such a transient state of existence. One moment at our peak of existence may as well be a second - a blink and it's gone.
The legacy of these men has been left behind by them. At least they left memories in the minds of others and plenty of footage of what they did. Now they are hollow husks, the best they had to give emptied from them. They are waiting to die.
They are luckier than most. At least their memory will live longer than we could all hope for, but in time it will leave this earth as well. We are all just waiting, first to achieve our pinnacle in life, the best we can do, and then once we know there's no better, watch our bodies and mind decay and for death to come.
