It was presented as a TV show first and foremost. This is why it was critically acclaimed. It's insane that the wrestling business still hasn't figured out that episodic storytelling is the way to go. Most of wrestling TV still plays like a glorified house show.

I unironically agree and LU was the most I enjoyed wrestling in years.
I don't fucking care if it's live, do enough takes so I rarely/never see botches and it makes wrestlers stand out and get over. Hell, Penta & Fenix wouldn't be half as over if not for LU.

LU has my second favorite hardcore match of all time (favorite being sabu vs funk nrbw match) and they also managed to make a full joshi stable interesting with the black lotus triad (badass name desu). So short lived yet very influential, they were pioneers of the cinematic matches that matt and jeff later adopted then everybody else followed suit

In a way, i feel like LU was the true spiritual successor of ecw, not gcw, not czw... Heyman had a similar style of booking, make the good talkers talk and showcase the strenghts of those who cannot talk but also put them on engaging storylines. Without storylines you just have dudes who wrestle. That might get over if they're good/flashy/original but not in the long run. You NEED some kind of gimmick, vignettes, backstage segments to build your character. LU did that, and even made Killer Kross a solid character, though only for short. Don't give those people 20min matches per episode, LU had a shitload of quick matches/squashes to further a storyline

The first few episodes aren't very good desu because they were missing a lot of wrestlers and couldn't get the storylines in motion yet. It starts to really get going around the sixth episode or so.
