I haven’t seen one match that resembles something of pro wrestling in AEW . Everything is leg slaps, flips , dives and fake strikes. I can’t even stand the Bryan danielson shit , it’s just sports entertainment .

I watched some 80s pro wrestling and it was like watching cinema. Like a match where two guys are really tossing each other . Trading forearms look like shit compared to anything from the 80s

The problem is WWE. There was a lot of good wrestling in the 80s but what made the most money was heavily promoted bad wrestling. Then Shawn Michaels came along and all of those kids that grew up on bad wrestling now wanted to perform like him but none of them want to work because working is gay.

I was watching a documentary on the Kansas City territory. They had clips of Ric Flair wrestling. It was him doing mat work to get a guy into a pin but it was actual wrestling. It's weird to think about it but everyone outside of wildman gimmicks would actually wrestle in their fake fights but now unless shooter is part of your gimmick, you don't. There will always be professional wrestling but it is unknown how much longer actual wrestling will have a place in it.

yeah that won't fly today outside specific matchups (like lesnar vs angle). it's all about finishers and superhero moves.
though can you blame the industry? that flashy digestible format drew the most dimes.

The spectacle and larger than life presentation was a good fit for dives and high flying . It was only a matter of time . The days of a suplex or a body slam are long dead even in AEW
