Punk was coming off of the biggest suckjob main event imaginable with a world title return in his hometown. He'd planned this speech! He planned it knowing the outcome of the match and knowing he was getting himself back on top. It just showed a different side to Punk that didn't have all of the favorable factors standing up against WWE did. WWE did him wrong and f***ed with his health, but AEW seemed to be giving him everything he ought to have wanted, and he was still unhappy. When CM Punk said in promos that he's the one who built this and paved the way, he sincerely believed it, and he thought that made him bigger, entitled him to a level of control that proved wholly unearned. For so long, Punk's stuff was something you could see two ways, but what he did at the scrum revealed all too readily where the truth lies.
