Possibly, yeah. It probably annoyed him that everyone would always say he was the shits compared to JR.

I've noticed this thing now where people say he was always based and only bad because he was just following ze orders. But every commentator had Vince screaming in their ears, and few were as bad as Cole at his worst. I do admit he had some good moments here and there and wasn't as bad as people used to say. Heel Michael Cole was dimes though

Ngl, Cole never hit the highs of JR but I never understood why people felt he was an awful commentator. He just relayed the action, didn't try to get himself over. Just a steady and reliable commentator. Nothing wrong with that and he was always over with me.

2002-2004ish SD Cole was based. He didn't get bad until he became the main voice on Raw, but he's been good lately.

At least with JR, we have years of reference. Cole was had very brief instances, one of them included Heyman forcing them to re-do commentary on Wednesdays.
