The camera work is a big part of it. Floorcams will always be more kino and make wrestlers look better than hard cam. Not to mention the WWE style flash cuts AEW have been doing lately
New Japan also has less choreography than AEW, with some exceptions everyone works faster and hits harder. Where I think AEW matches work better is that they often do new stuff I haven't seen as opposed to New Japan where matches are often variations on the same signature spots. (Pretty much every Ishii and Suzuki matches are the same for example)
AEW also slacks on the actual character psychology and character motivations as opposed to Japan.
