There's evidence that Bret had recently suffered a concussion before wrestling Goldberg. He continued to wrestle. Then another one. Then another five in the next six weeks after that. Bret himself wrote that it was multiple concussions going all the way through January that meant he had to retire. He wrote that in his retirement message. Independent sources corroborate all this. From the F4W newsletter #280 (nov 6, 2000):>Instead of taking time off to get evaluated, Bret stayed on the road, taking powerbombs from Sid and wrestling hardcore matches with Terry Funk. When the headaches became unbearable, he finally visited his doctor and was given the bad news — he’d suffered a half dozen concussions within a period of just weeks. Yes, the kick from Goldberg was a problem. But most of the damage was done after that. From the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, nov 6 2000:>There have been doctors that have surmised he actually had suffered a concussion in the ring before that match, which magnified the damaging effect of the kick on his brain. But in any event, his continuing to wrestle, and suffering more head trauma, particularly in one of his final career match, a hardcore match against Terry Funk, led to his suffering about ten percent brain damage, some of which may be permanent.

Goldberg's kick wasn't even what hurt him during that match. He got concussed minutes prior when he gave himself a back bump on the outside of the ring and his head hit the floor.

It was to work Lloyds of London for insurance money. When he had that weird little run in the WWE in the 2000s when he wasn't on TV and was working house shows he was taking bumps and doing all his classic moves.

>>9654404 The Turnbuckle Post Figure Four is done properly by the guy who is on the receiving end of it by him holding onto the foot/ankle of the one executing it so he can easily apply it without smacking his head against the concrete. The Rock did it properly here and Bret doesn't apply it until Rock holds his ankle. It eases the guy to the ground:
https://youtu.be/gcpAFYwYRC4?t=759 Goldberg didn't, hence why Bret smacked his head.
Why did Bret do it if Goldberg didn't hold his ankle?

But seriously? Yeah, he has to take some responsibility for that. Just like Punk would take respon-oh...

>>9655322 Looking with Goldberg, Bret immediately went down before Goldberg even had a chance to hold it, not even half a second. With this one with Rock he at least waited 3 or so seconds.

He just knows he can't blame one of the boys without getting serious heat so he blames an outlier like Goldberg. Knowing that he screwed himself out of matches with Kurt Angle and Lesnar made him even more bitter about it.

>>9655118 Trademark. I always laugh at people who say a hot pink wearing Bret should've been Austin's WM14 opponent. It wouldn't have looked right. He looked too old school, even for 1998. HBK got away with it, as he updated his look.
