The difference between his match with Sami and every other match after is insane. They probably told both of them to never wrestle like that and expose the rest of the roster ever again.

Nothing to do with that. When was the last time there was a good singles match in WM that wasn't either a main event or a gimmick match? Even the GOONTHER match had to be a triple threat.

Like, there's Cody Rhodes VS Seth Rollins, but past that, you'd have to go as far back as a streak defense, and not one of the last ones.

I don't buy that for a second. A lot of that match was pulled straight from Nakamura VS Ibushi at the G1. It was very carefully crafted.

Probably the main difference between that match is that Nakamura and Sami Zayn planned it themselves, instead of getting the whole bureaucratic system with whichever road agent gets assigned to them to do it, which happens in every big show on the main roster.

Shinsuke has always been overrated because people only saw his Wrestle Kingdom matches. He's not a Shawn Michaels ca '95 who goes out there and has fantastic matches with anyone and everyone all the time. He's more like Randy Orton who turns it on once in a blue moon, but chooses to be boring for most of the time. Hell, even in NXT, everything after Sami was underwhelming as fuck. Dude is just incredibly inconsistent.

Those were infuriating. The WM match ended at the point where they would have kicked it into high-gear in Japan. Same with the Backlash rematch. The double low-blow spot was awesome and the crowd popped, but then they ended the match with that spot and killed it.

Unironically, he lacks the mentality and ambition for a top run. Every time WWE tried by having him be NXT champ, him beating Cena, winning the Rumble etc. it was like trying to strike a wet match. His "charisma" is also an acquired taste because I bet if you showed a clip of him to random people, half of them would think he was mentally retarded, not some cool must-see fighter dude. That combined with his poor English skills and the IC title was always going to be his ceiling, which is justified imo.

Less heelish, more tweener, getting his mannerisms down and perfecting them. Not as raw, but this is still peak Nakamura overall. In my opinion, at least somewhere within this time frame he was the best wrestler on the planet when it came to the big matches.
