I thought it was just a novelty like the US title and it was going to revert back to a more traditional belt design or the undisputed design sometime later but no, they kept that for years, didn't they? I think its one of those situations where you try and concetrate on the champions who held it; Jeff Hardy won that belt, Edge won that belt. The only one I felt that made it actually look good when wearing it was Triple H.

Agreed. Triple H somehow pulled it off, yet his personality/style was the exact opposite of the Spinner. Hell, he made every belt he wore look good.

I think it wound up being the combination of how long Cena's reign was, coupled with Edge wanting his own belt. Instead he got the Spinner with his logo, which cemented it as the default title. Really it was sort of the prototype for the custom sideplates we have now.
